Ryan Bourne & The Plant City Band
For over a decade, Calgary psych-pop wizard Ryan Bourne has lent his singular touch to projects like Ghostkeeper, Sleepkit and Chad VanGaalen. On 2023’s Plant City, Bourne recruited VanGaalen and Chris Dadge to co-produce a strutting garage pop odyssey. The five-piece Plant City Band brings this dream to hazy, dazzling life.
Thanya Iyer
Backed by Emilie Kahn, Daniel Gélinas, and Pompey, Thanya Iyer is known for future-folk stylings and a charming live show. But on her third album TIDE/TIED, Iyer is adding jazz hooks and ambient production into the mix, effortlessly deepening her sound. As she returns to Sled Island, there’s no better time to get reacquainted with this enigmatic songwriter.
June Hawthorn
The moniker of singer-songwriter Juniper Lee (they/them), June Hawthorn shares their dragon tales of existing in liminal realms and of undergoing excruciating changes, grieving through yet basking in cycles of death and rebirth. Lee is of mixed Korean and European descent, having moved to Toronto from Vancouver in 2024. They were previously known under the name of SoyJoy in the Vancouver and Pacific Northwest underground DIY music scene.
Laura Hickli
Progressive art pop songstress Laura Hickli is known for her dreamy soundscapes, exquisite vocals, evocative lyrics, and emotionally powerful performances. Described as gripping, lush and other-worldly, Hickli’s upcoming record tells her compelling story of survival and resilience through her spellbindingly intimate, yet explosive brand of dark process-music.
