Mary Lattimore
From performing with Thurston Moore to live streams on Resident Advisor, Mary Lattimore is known to shape-shift her harp with effects pedals and synthesizers. This contemporary approach shimmers through her 2020 album Silver Ladders. But the nine plus minute single “I Spent the Day Inside” is her latest, a waterfall of plunked notes and haunting melody.
SANAM
With lyrics inspired from Arabic folklore and a primordial storm of heavy free rock, SANAM’s debut release Aykathani Malakon is a hypnotic slow-burn of old and new, indebted to traditional Egyptian songs and post-punk experimentation. Take part in their audio rituals on last year’s release Live at Cafe Oto… or better yet, right here at Sled Island.
Hermitess
The project of self-professed “reclusive witch” Jennifer Crighton, Hermitess deals in sonic dreams, with music and images bringing listeners deeper. Layered orchestral textures, harmonic voices, and pedal-driven magic combine with a harp (and sometimes a backing band) to configure a fleeting fever dream of haunting chamber melodies.
Elder Blessing
This year, we’re very fortunate to start off the festival with a special elder blessing, taking place on Wednesday, June 18 at Central United Church. The ceremony starts at 5:30pm ahead of the Mary Lattimore show.
