Mini Cooper Club Event: Highwood Pass Picnic

Destination: Highwood Pass (Kananaskis Country)
Event Theme: Scenic Drives, Nature, and Outdoor Fun!
Celebrate the start of summer with a breathtaking drive through the stunning landscapes of Kananaskis Country, culminating in a picnic at Highwood Pass—the highest paved road in Canada! This is a day to soak up the views, enjoy great company, and take some incredible photos.
Itinerary for June 21, 2025
8:30 AM – Meet-Up at Westhills Shopping Centre (Calgary)
Location: Park near the Theatre
Quick introductions, route overview, and distribution of maps or GPS links.
Ensure everyone has a full tank of gas, snacks, and supplies for the picnic.
9:00 AM – Departure
Start the scenic convoy heading west on Highway 1 to Highway 40.
Enjoy the 1.5-hour drive through rolling foothills and the Rockies.
Planned rest stop at Fortress Gas Station in Kananaskis (~10:15 AM).
10:45 AM – Arrival at Highwood Pass Parking Lot
Park in the designated lot (ample space for our Minis).
Gather for a group photo with the stunning mountain backdrop.
Brief welcome and introduction to the surrounding area.
11:15 AM – Nature Walk (Optional) (THOUGHTS?)
Take a leisurely stroll along the nearby trails, such as the Ptarmigan Cirque Trail (easy-moderate, ~2 hours round trip).
Enjoy the wildflowers and views of the alpine environment.
12:30 PM – Picnic Time
Head to the picnic area or set up near the parking lot for lunch.
Bring your favorite picnic food, folding chairs, and blankets.
Club will provide some light snacks and water.
1:30 PM – Social Hour and Car Show
Spend time mingling with fellow MINI enthusiasts.
Show off your car and admire others in the lineup.
Take individual and group photos of the Minis against the stunning alpine backdrop.
2:30 PM – Departure for Calgary
Regroup in the parking lot and begin the return drive along Highway 40.
Optional stop in Longview for ice cream or coffee (~4:30 PM).
4:30 PM – Arrival Back in Calgary
Arrive back at Westhills Shopping Centre or head directly home from the convoy.
What to Bring:
Picnic essentials: food, drinks, blanket, and chairs
Comfortable walking shoes and warm layers (it can be cooler at the pass)
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
Camera or phone for photos
Full tank of gas before departure
