Mini Cooper Club Event: Nanton Grain Elevators Tour

Step back in time with us as we head to the Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre in Nanton. This fascinating historical site offers a glimpse into Alberta’s agricultural heritage, with beautifully preserved grain elevators that are a true symbol of the prairies. Combine that with a scenic drive and MINI camaraderie, and you’ve got a day to remember!
Itinerary for September 21, 2025
9:30 AM – Meet-Up at Deerfoot Meadows Shopping Centre (Calgary)
Location: Park near the IKEA entrance.
Meet fellow club members, review the route, and distribute maps or GPS links.
Ensure everyone has a full tank of gas and is ready for the drive.
10:00 AM – Departure for Nanton
Start the convoy heading south on Highway 2 toward Nanton.
Enjoy a 1-hour scenic drive through rolling prairies and farmland.
Optional stop for photos at a scenic spot along the way (~10:30 AM).
11:00 AM – Arrival at Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre
Park in the designated lot near the elevators (plenty of space for our Minis).
Gather for a group photo with the iconic grain elevators in the background.
11:15 AM – Guided Tour of the Grain Elevators
Join a guided tour to explore the inner workings of the grain elevators and learn about their history and importance to Alberta’s agricultural industry.
Tour Fee: $10/person (pay on-site).
12:15 PM – Lunch Break in Nanton
Head to a local spot for lunch, such as:
Sweet Queen Burgers & Ice Cream for a casual bite.
The Hive Eatery for locally inspired dishes.
Alternatively, bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park.
1:30 PM – Visit Nanton’s Antique Shops and Candy Store
Explore the charming antique shops and the famous Nanton Candy Store, a hit for both kids and adults alike.
2:30 PM – Social Time and MINI Showcase
Regroup by the grain elevators or in the parking area.
Spend time mingling, taking photos, and admiring the lineup of Minis.
3:00 PM – Departure for Calgary
Regroup in the parking lot and begin the return drive to Calgary.
Optional stop in High River for coffee or ice cream if the group is interested.
4:30 PM – Arrival Back in Calgary
Arrive at Deerfoot Meadows Shopping Centre or head directly home from the convoy.
What to Bring:
Comfortable shoes for walking around the site
Cash or card for tour fees, lunch, and optional shopping
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
Camera or phone for photos
Full tank of gas before departure
