About Calgary Concert Opera:
Founded in 2011 by mezzo-soprano Barbara King, the Calgary Concert Opera Company (CCOC) is a dynamic opera ensemble based in Calgary, Alberta, dedicated to presenting full-length operas in an accessible concert format. Over the years, CCOC has produced 13 complete operas, including renowned works such as Carmen, Rigoletto, La Traviata, and Samson et Dalila. Their approach emphasizes musical storytelling with minimal staging, allowing audiences to engage intimately with the performances.
CCOC has collaborated with various ensembles and organizations, including the Foothills Philharmonic Opera Chorus, Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra, 12 Musas Flamenco, Compass Performances Studios, Calgary Civic Symphony, Toronto's Opera by Request, and Alberta Vocal Arts. These partnerships have enriched their productions and provided opportunities for over 80 professional and emerging opera singers from across Canada to showcase their talents.
In September 2025, CCOC will present a compelling double bill featuring Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Puccini's Suor Angelica. Performances are scheduled for: September 12, 2025 at The Polaris Theatre, Calgary, at 7:30 PM, and September 14, 2025 at Red Deer Lake United Church, Foothills, at 7:00 PM. The productions will be conducted by Carlos Foggin and will feature a chamber orchestra.
CCOC's commitment to making opera accessible and fostering local talent continues to resonate with audiences, bringing the timeless art of opera to new and diverse communities.
