Hand & Lock: Inside the Atelier

Join Hand & Lock and Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust for an exclusive talk exploring the rich history and artistry of embroidery, from its regal past to its contemporary applications. In celebration of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday, this event will run alongside a special Regency embroidery workshop, offering a deeper insight into the world of historical and couture embroidery.

Hand & Lock, Britain’s oldest embroidery house, will bring a curated selection of archive pieces to Buxton, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship spanning centuries.

This talk will explore the evolution of embroidery across different eras, from the elaborate embellishments of Regency fashion to the intricate goldwork seen in military and ceremonial dress. We’ll also highlight our collaborations with luxury fashion houses such as Christian Dior and Burberry, illustrating how embroidery continues to shape design today.

This is a rare opportunity to see historic embroidery up close and hear first hand from Hand & Lock experts about the techniques, materials, and artistry that define this timeless craft.

Talk includes drink upon arrival, (Red & White Wine, Soft Drinks or Hot Drinks).
