Ever wonder where your clothes come from? Find out through Pohick's Sheep to Shawl series, where we will trace the process from start to finish - and invite you to learn how to acquire these ancient skills for yourself.
We will have a lot going on during the last in-branch event of our clothing and sustainability series:
- Learn more about how to incorporate sustainability into your buying, making, and using habits: Martha Polkey, co-founder of Chesapeake Fibershed, will join us to discuss how she is trying to create a regional fiber system that links local fibers, local dyes, and local labor.
- Bring your beautiful me-mades for all to see! We'll have a giant show-and-tell display, where you can show off your masterpieces to a group of fellow fiber enthusiasts. Did you master a challenging technique? Create a breath-taking work of art? Weave or knit a scarf for the first time? Bring your work and let us ooh and aah over it! We're particularly excited to see what you've done with the roving and yarn blanks we distributed during the Spinning and Dyeing programs. Don't worry, this will be just a temporary loan; your works of art can go home with you when you leave!
- Find out where we'll be meeting up for our visit to the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival in late September. We'll also be taking a look at the agenda to find out which sessions are not to be missed.
- Take part in our Fiber and Tool Swap: Got any yarn that is awesome but know you'll never use it? Ready to divest yourself of any fiber-related tools, such as knitting needles, roving, dyes, or drop spindles? Now is the time to bring these items to class and swap them for some other new-to-you items! You can take unclaimed items home or donate them to Pohick's Makerspace, the POD.
