About the event

Bird Box Workshop - Building for Wildlife
Join the Leschenault Catchment Council for a hands-on Bird Box Workshop, a fun, educational morning for nature lovers of all ages. This event is part of both the Community Wildlife Stewardship Event Series and Estuary Connect’s Helping the Estuary at Home initiative—supporting local wildlife conservation, right from your own backyard.

Led by wildlife ecologist Simon Cherriman and environmental educator Danielle Crichton from The Re-Cyc-Ology Project, this engaging experience will teach you about the fascinating world of tree-hollow-dependent species—like owls, possums, and black cockatoos—and how you can support them by creating nest-boxes using recycled materials.

What’s Included:
- A presentation on native birds and the importance of tree hollows
- A hands-on nest-box building session using sustainable materials
- A chance to win 1 of 3 Leschenault Community Plant Vouchers ($50 each!)
- Contribute to local conservation—10 completed bird boxes will be donated to the City of Bunbury and installed in local bushland reserves
- Morning tea and lunch provided

Why Bird Boxes?
Natural tree hollows take centuries to form—and many have been lost due to land clearing. Nest boxes offer a vital refuge for hollow-dependent species and are a simple, rewarding way to help wildlife thrive. You’ll leave inspired with practical tips to turn your garden into a haven for native fauna.
