Tadley Ewing Peake "Tadd" Dameron was a key arranger and composer in jazz history, working for Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Jimmie Lunceford, Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Eckstine and Sarah Vaughan. He also led his own groups with musicians like John Coltrane and especially the drummer "Philly" Joe Jones, who became his best friend. "Philly" Joe Jones was the drummer of the first "Great" Miles Davis Quintet and one of the most influential jazz drummers of all time. In the 1980s he founded the “Dameronia” ensemble, which was dedicated to the classic and timeless work of Tadd Dameron.
Austrian Drummer Bernd Reiter studied in Graz and New York and was awarded several prizes, including the Hans Koller Prize, the Austrian Jazz Prize, in 2006. Some years ago he founded this project and since 2021 the “Dameronia’s Legacy All-Stars” bring this unique music back to the stage, featuring some of the best soloists of the international jazz scene.
Jon Gordon, a native New Yorker, saxophonist and composer began his career as a protege of the legendary Phil Woods. As a young teen, he began playing professionally with Red Rodney, Roy Eldridge, Barney Kessel, Al Grey, Eddie Locke, Mike LeDonne, Mel Lewis, Doc Cheatham, Larry Goldings, Ben Monder, Peter Bernstein, Leon Parker, among many others.
Tenor saxophonist Kirk MacDonald is a legend of the Canadian jazz scene, who has worked with a long list of jazz giants, including Sam Noto or George Coleman.
The line-up on this special one-night appearance in Buffalo features the Hasselback Family with trumpeter, John Hasselback III, trombonist John Hasselback Jr. and pianist Lisa Hasselback, a long-time dynasty on the Buffalo scene, in which bassist Paul LaDuca has also been a steady figure for many years.
