Join us at True Texas Project this month for a discussion surrounding the construction of the proposed "Inner East Loop". We will be hearing from both sides of this issue in order to provide a balanced and well rounded point of view for our attendees.
From the Brazos County website: "Brazos County is studying the feasibility of a new roadway that would connect the eastern areas of Bryan and College Station. Should the study determine a new roadway is needed, it would enhance local and regional connectivity for future East Brazos County as the area continues to grow.
The proposed new alignment would connect at SH 6 east of FM 2818 in Bryan, cross SH 30 south of Elmo Weedon Road, and connect with William D Fitch Parkway in College Station. The study is funded through Brazos County’s voter-approved Transportation Road Improvement Program (TRIP) 2022 Bond. Only the feasibility study is funded—should the study determine a new roadway is needed, the County will need to identify additional funding for subsequent phases."
From the No East Loop website: "The East Loop Opposition, also known as No East Loop, believes this 20-mile 4-lane divided highway with a 300-foot Right-of-Way unfairly burdens many property and home owners of eastern Brazos County. Homes will be torn down, farm & ranch land will be cut in half, wildlife will be disrupted, natural creeks and springs will be disturbed, and agricultural production will be impeded. In addition, the enjoyment of rural life outside of the city, especially those that moved from larger cities, will be decimated. With a 10-15 year project completion estimate, this highway is about future metropolitan development and does not ease the traffic burdens on Highway 6 needed yesterday.
The funding of the $11.2 million comes from a Bond Package passed by 29% of the voting population in November of 2022 and the details of that have been called into question by the No East Loop Opposition. A "documentary" movie was shown at the No East Loop Town Hall in February that sheds more light on the story of how this plan came to fruition, the parties involved, the $15,000/month consultant John Polster, whom insists he is NOT a lobbyist, and the PAC and its donors that paid to promote the Bond Package."
