Ocean Mouth: Hainanese Cuisine at Commune

presents OCEAN MOUTH, a menu honoring the foodways of Haikou, Hainan.

Inspired by early childhood years in the island city, Annie is excited to celebrate the unique cultural history of Hainanese food. Though many may have heard of Hainan only through the eponymous Hainanese chicken rice, there is far more to the island cuisine. Rooted in tropical agriculture, traditional dishes tap into the savory flavors reflecting the diversity of fresh produce, coastal catch and local-raised meats.

Though there is no present way to bring the beloved Wenchang chicken breed to Brooklyn, the Commune residency menu strives to showcase the qualities of texture, tang and freshness in Hainanese cooking within the ingredient landscape of New York.

The menu pre-sale (serves 2!) includes all courses and serves as your reservation and payment for the event.

$70 for pre-sale, full menu, serves 1-2 diners. 2 full menus recommended for 3-4 diners. Enter anytime 5-9pm Tues-Friday.
