NYSADTA PRESENTS: SHAKE

This workshop delves into the history and techniques of select African Diasporic social dances characterized by the quality of shaking. Participants will explore the protective factors inherent in these dances, both historically and in contemporary contexts, and understand how they have served as vital tools for navigating societal challenges. Through this immersive and interactive experience, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of the cultural significance, resilience, and transformative power embodied in the social dances. The workshop will include a breakdown of the dance technique, art making, and collective improvisation, fostering a hands-on understanding and connection to the workshop content.
