The BRM Concert and Jam Session returns for our first event at Barzakh Cafe, featuring Ramanan and Aditya Phatak. The concert will begin with a solo performance of a raga on the Hansaveena with aalaap (non rhythmic rendition), jor (rhythmic rendition) & jhaala (crescendo outro). This is followed by a duet, Hansaveena & Tabla, rendering a different raga over a certain beat cycle, including the various traditional improvisations. Finally, a melodic journey and string of ragas, called ragamala, in the light classical music format rendering various ragas of the morning, afternoon, evening and night.
Their performance will be followed by the legendary BRM Jam Session, based in ragas but free to travel the world and hosted by BRM Co-Artistic Director, Neel Murgai. Musicians coming to participate in the Jam Session get free admission. Sign up to play in the jam here

Ramanan Venkatraman
Ramanan is an established Hansaveena artist, a rare and unique instrument in the Indian classical arts. He trained under the world-renowned Hansaveena pioneer, Pandit Barun Kumar Pal, in the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara. Ramanan is known for his sophisticated technique, melodic originality, and deep commitment to the authenticity of Indian Raga grammar and has garnered recognition among both Eastern and Western audiences. A proud representative of the Senia Maihar - Pandit Ravi Shankar Gharana, he is also a highly rated All India Radio (AIR) graded artist. He is the co-founder of Sadhana Arts Academy, established in 2014 along with Odissi Exponent Radhika Samson, training over 70 students yearly in various art forms.
Aditya Phatak
Aditya is a rising star of the Tabla from New York, renowned for his prodigious talent. He is fondly remembered as the remarkable two-year-old who played the Tabla even before he could speak. Inspired by his grandfather, Deepak Phatak, and later guided by his uncle, Shivraj Phatak, Aditya’s musical journey took shape under the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara. He is a devoted disciple of Pandit Samir Chatterjee, whose rigorous training has deeply shaped his artistry. Through unwavering dedication and refined taalim, Aditya has established himself as a sought-after accompanist, performing alongside several luminaries of Indian Classical Music.
