About This Event
Discover the magic of lighting in photography! This two hour workshop is designed for beginner photographers who want to learn the basics of lighting to make their photos stand out. You’ll explore a one-light setup, practice with real equipment and live-models, get tips from experts and answers to any questions you have on how to create amazing photos with an “editorial” look.
Who Is This For?
This workshop is perfect for beginners with little to no experience in photography. If you’re just starting out and want to learn how to use light to make your pictures better, this is for you! What You’ll Learn Lighting Basics: Understand how to use one external light to get great results every time. Copying Cool Photos: Learn how to look at example photos and recreate their lighting in your own work. Talking About Light: Practice describing your lighting ideas clearly to others. Shoot Your Shot: There will be time for you to shoot and add images to your portfolio.
About the Instructors
Danny Lairon Danny is a fashion photographer from San Francisco who's work has been featured in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair and many more.. He loves using light to tell stories in his photos, whether for fashion, brands or personal projects. In this workshop, he’ll share a simple, practical setup to help you use a one-light setup in a creative way to achieve an "editorial" or high-fashion look.

1984 Staff Photographers
1984 Staff has over 20 years experience working as cinematographers, lighting technicians and photographers for fashion and commercial projects. All are willing to teach you easy ways to use lighting equipment to make your photos pop. They will be at the event to answer any questions you have about your equipment and how to best use.

What to Expect
Part 1: Learning the One-light Setup (3pm - 4:15pm) Morning: We’ll start with a fun talk about how light works in photography, using real photos as examples. You’ll learn about natural light (like sunlight) and artificial light (like studio lamps).
Afternoon: Discover the difference between soft and bright light and how they change the look of your photos. You’ll also get to try out basic equipment like light stands and reflectors to see how they work. By the End: You’ll understand the basics of lighting and feel ready to start experimenting!
Part 2: Live practice shooting with Lights & Models (4:15pm - 5 pm) Attendees will be able to shoot with their own equipment Two models and backdrops will be available to shoot By the End: You’ll feel confident using a one light setup to make your photos look amazing. Instructors will be on sight to answer any questions, bring your equipment and we’re happy to help you figure it out.
