An Evening of Poetry with Game Over Books!

Founded in 2017, Game Over Books is a small Boston-based press run by nerdy artists. Our mission? Print books from diverse voices that push creative writing forward into the Next Level. From acceptance to publication, we give continual guidance to writers as they continue to gain experience points, grow their craft, and navigate the world of publishing.

We want to show people that a 40-page poetry collection about Gerard Way as a queer and trans icon has just as much value, and has just as much quality, as New York Times bestsellers, if not more. Our press prides itself on being transparent about all aspects of our publishing process and providing authors a much needed entry point into the publishing industry.

Emmanuel Oppong-Yeboah is a Ghanaian American poet, editor, and educator living out the diaspora in Boston, Massachusetts. They are both Black & alive. Born in 1993, Emmanuel is Boston's newly appointed poet laureate, and the school librarian at the Joseph Lee School in Dorchester. In the past, Emmanuel has served as a teaching artist at organizations such as the Massachusetts Literary Education and Performance Collective, the Cambridge Arts Council, Northeastern University, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Emmanuel’s poem, “kra-din” (Kweli Journal), is a past recipient of the Pushcart Prize (XLIII). In his free time, Emmanuel enjoys hot carbs, brightly colored chapbooks, and the long sigh at the end of a good book.

Zeke Russell is a poet and housing advocate. He grew up in Central Maine surrounded by artists, lumberjacks and outlaws. He is clean and sober and lives in Boston with his spouse Milo. His debut poetry collection Wintered Over is available from Game Over Books. His work has appeared in Wyvern Lit, Drunk In A Midnight Choir, Freezeray Poetry, Maps For Teeth and on Button Poetry online.

Myles Taylor (they/he) is a Boston-based transmasculine writer, organizer, educator, food service worker, and glitter enthusiast. They are the current director and board president of the historic Boston Poetry Slam at the Cantab Lounge and former President of the Emerson Poetry Project. They have been performing and representing Boston at slam tournaments and festivals internationally for nearly a decade. Their debut collection, Masculinity Parable (Game Over Books, 2023) was shortlisted for the Nossrat Yassini Poetry Prize. Zenaida Peterson is the author of their first full length book of poetry, Sky Responds to Our Holler. They are a Black southern Quaker mystic and a parent of 5 species living in a queer co-op in Boston. Zenaida is the founding director of Feminine Empowerment Movement Slam (FEMS). They have been on or coached 7 competing teams at national poetry slam competitions, placing in the top 10 each time including Rustbelt’s winning team in 2015. They were accepted into Pinkdoor, Poetry Foundation’s Poetry Incubator and CantoMundo writing retreats.
