TUESDAY 7TH OCTOBER @ 8PM - Now for something totally different. Here's a heads-up from our Member AL HADEN on what to expect and how to prepare for it – AL and his colleague, MATT will be presenting a talk and demonstrating 'LIGHT PAINTING'
'Tuesday will see Matt and me do another light painting evening. Some of the same for those that didn’t participate last year and some newer ideas too.
We will need to shoot in manual mode as that will allow us flexibility on settings. Also allows up to a 30 second exposure which is what we will use. If a longer exposure was required then we would be using the bulb setting but this isn’t necessary on the night.
If you don’t have a cable release to start the exposure, most cameras will have a delay function (2 seconds on Canon) after pressing the shutter before the exposure commences. So, you will need to find this setting to avoid any camera movement.
ISO of 100 is fine. Start with an f stop of f8 and we can adjust this dependent upon the reflected light in the hall.
Mirrorless - exposure simulation off and for all cameras, if you have a noise reduction setting active which takes a second shot at the same shutter speed as the first, this will need to be turned off, as otherwise you will have to wait a minute to see your image (the initial 30 second exposure then an addition 30 seconds whilst the noise reduction image is taken).
Don’t forget your tripod. We will need to work very close to each other, as last year, to fit everyone in. The good thing here is that you should be close to someone who can help if you have an issue.
Should be a fun relaxed evening. The idea isn’t to get competition winning images but just to show you that there are no real secrets to light painting.' Al
See you all there Folks!!
