Dodecahedron Bead Necklace

We are moving into the far east region in our adventure of Beading Around the World. In our research, we found that the earliest known examples of beaded dodecahedron are from the Chinese Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). We decided that this piece is the perfect place to start our unit. Don’t be intimidated by the intricate look of this piece, we have lots of tips and tricks for you, and it is a completely approachable project. We strongly suggest starting with multiple colors to help you wrap your head around the construction before attempting solid colors.
You will need:
For the dodecahedron
* 30 specialty beads (we used 4mm bicones, but fire polish, 6°s or 8°s would work nicely as well
* For beginners: 5 beads in 4 separate colors (total 20 beads), 10 beads of 1 color
* For those feeling more confident: 10 beads in 3 separate colors
* 11° seed beads
For the necklace
* Leather or poly cord
* Bead caps
* Glass Pearls
* 4 bicones (or whatever specialty bead you wish)
