Pathways to the Past: 18th Century Laundry

Pathways to the Past is an immersive program for BBHC visitors to learn more about the lives of everyday people in the mid-18th century.

Clean laundry was an essential part of maintaining a soldier’s health during the 18th century, and a vital part of women’s roles in the British Army during the Braddock Campaign. Reenactor Lauren Koker demonstrates how women washed clothes and the surprisingly unique items they used for laundry —both at home, and on the march. Visitors can even try their hand at washing clothes in the colonial way!
