About the event

The Alphabet Mafia's Comedy Workshop
Fascism is so hot right now… don’t cry about it… peg it one punchline at a time. As the Fool, I fervently believe that humor is our greatest tool against supremacy of any kind. Whether you just have a sense of humor or you do anything at all (big or small) with it, humor is vital to our humanity. It’s a well timed fart reminding enemies that everyone farts and farts are always funny.

The Alphabet Mafia’s Comedy Workshop is my first solution and an offering to my trans & queer community. This workshop is seven weekly lessons on Wednesday at the comedy club, Liquid Laughs Underground. I have gathered a team of true artists, professionals, and queer icons to teach you what they know. A dream team. The Alphabet Mafia’s First Dream Team!

I am offering this workshop for free to anyone in the trans & queer community with the opportunity to be booked on the showcase at the end. I want to create a strong queer community in the local comedy scene. I am openly trying to change the hearts and minds of people toward love, away from fear & I think funny is a good step… or at least the one I’m taking. If you wanna step into the rabbit hole with me & fight fascism with fart jokes, or you just wanna make your Diary laugh, sign up for The Alphabet Mafia’s Comedy Workshop. Allies are invited to take the workshop too for $40 per workshop or $120 for the full seven weeks.

6/11/2025 - SPIRIT OF CLOWN WITH MADAZON CAN-CAN
Clowning allows us to embody our other selves, our freer and more innocent selves. There is a mindset that comes along with being a clown that says, “What if…” and “I don’t know…and “We could…” which creates endless possibilities in our minds and bodies to explore what could be if we simply allowed ourselves to play. We will learn techniques for embodying our full selves, incorporating aspects of the creative mind, and engaging with the Spirit of our own unique Clown through play, theatre games, dance practices, and laughter. Come ready to stretch yourselves (literally) and build a skill set that doesn’t require any skill, just presence, which is the gift that all Clowns know is worth playing for.
6/18/2025 - PUNCH IT UP! WITH DAISY MAELSTROM
Already got some laughs but want to hit harder? Punch It Up is a fast-paced, hands-on workshop for comics who know the basics and want to sharpen their material. We’ll cover punchlines, tags, editing, and voice—everything you need to take your jokes from “pretty funny” to “crushing.” Bring a few bits, leave with stronger jokes and sharper tools.
6/25/2025 - DOM-MOMMY THE ROOM WITH KRYSTAL MOORE
Ten years of running shows, 17 years of being a mom, and a lifetime of being the oldest sister in a Mormon family (and that’s not to mention the 5 years of clowning) have all given me a chest full of tools for controlling a room. In this class, I will give you all the tips and tricks I’ve learned to maintain control of the room. We’ll talk about the intimate relationship between you and the audience and work on connecting to the crowd. We’ll do a workout I’m calling “Don’t Feed the Bears!” Hecklers are never worth your time. The goal is to know your audience and maintain authority over them, which is only done with consent. I’ll teach you how to keep their consent and what to do when you might have lost their consent or someone is challenging your authority.
7/2/2025 - STORY TELLING 101 WITH BETH NORTON
Bring your rough draft 5-10 minute story on the theme of Family/Mafia, for a storytelling workshop with Beth Norton. A comedian for over a decade and host and director of Story Story late night, she welcomes funny and deep stories where something is at stake. Beth will go over the basics of craft, set some ground rules, and then, depending on group size, you’ll split off or work in one smaller group. The goal is to come away with a new insight into your story or perhaps feeling a bit more confident, or maybe a touch of magic from the universe.
7/9/2025 - LIVE, LAUGH, LESBIAN WITH VAL ST CLAIRE
Curious about stand-up but not sure where to start? This class is for queer creatives of all kinds—even (and especially) if you’ve never touched a mic. Taught by a queer, non-binary veteran of Seattle’s comedy scene, we’ll explore unexpected tools to help you find your voice on stage: meditation, long walks in the woods, building community, and yes, even improv. This isn’t just about getting laughs—it’s about expression, connection, and discovering the power of your own perspective.
7/16/2025 - SPIRIT OF JOY WITH BONNIE VIOLET
Queer Chaplain, and one half of Trans Joy Boise, Bonnie Violet will “take us to church”, but make it gay - in the traditional sense of the word, as in joyfull. Joy is crucial to resistance, vital to building community, and an asset of spirituality. Few think about spirituality and comedy in the same sentence, but I would encourage you to consider your spiritual well-being before doing stand-up comedy. Which is why I’ve asked one of the few chaplains I think we can all trust, trans femme genderqueer spiritual drag artist and digital chaplain Bonnie Violet, to give us a sermon… get us right with the gods (or whatever) before the showcase. Belief in god is not necessary (or encouraged) to attend this sermon.
7/23/2025 - K*ll YOUR DARLINGS! WITH KRYSTAL MOORE
Never be too committed to what you’ve written to change it. It can literally always change; in fact, it will change whether you change it or not. Everything changes, and everyone changes, and meanings change with time. Nothing is stagnant. It is all in motion, and you must be in motion with it. Some of the best material I have found has been in the editing process. The part after I’ve written it all down, and I think about who and what it’s for. In this class, we will take our material and we will edit it down to 5-minute sets. I’ll give some examples of how I’ve done this in my own sets, and then we will group up and help each other trim our sets. There will be an opportunity at the end of this class to perform your set in front of the class.
