Author Presentation with Russell S. Kitchner

Join us for an evening with Russell S. Kitchner with a special presentation about his book, Alaska: Where There Was A Way, featuring the beauty of an untouched Alaska.

A Common Man in an Enchanted Land
This is the story of Will Kitchner who, in 1937 and age 19, traveled from his home in Syracuse, NY to Seattle, WA where he boarded a freighter bound for Alaska. During the following 4 years Will worked a gold claim northeast of Fairbanks and a fur-trapping line on the Salcha River before returning home to Syracuse where he passed away at age 38. His legacy was secured by Kodachrome slides he took in an effort to capture the timeless beauty of the largely unexplored Alaska Territory before it had been touched by the modern civilization.

---ABOUT THE AUTHOR---
Russell Kitchner earned a BA and MS from the State University of New York at Fredonia, and his Ph. D from Texas A&M. He spent most of his career in university administration, and several years working as an advocate for military students, veterans and their families in Washington, DC. Alaska has been a central focus of Russell's life beginning when, at a young age, he listened to his father describe his experiences and slides that he took between 1937 and 1941.
