Lavender Wand Workshop

Creating lavender wands, “Fuseaux de lavande”, involves weaving beautiful ribbons into the stems of lavender. Binding fragrant lavender blooms inside the wand becomes a decorative way to utilize the benefits of lavender.

Lavender wands were initially used to scent linens, protect them from moths, and mask unpleasant odors, making them a practical addition to wardrobes and drawers. Traditionally, lavender wands were included in a bride's trousseau, symbolizing love and happiness.

Today, lavender wands are treasured for their fragrant and decorative qualities. They are still used to scent homes, cabinets, and closets and as a moth repellent, as they retain their potency for 2-3 years.

While our long-stemmed French lavender cultivars are in bloom, it’s the perfect time to join Cathy Smith and create your own "Fuseau de lavande", a beautiful and fragrant piece of history that you can take home to enjoy or gift to someone special.

A Little About the Instructor

From a young age, making and creating have been my playground. My early endeavors included crafting strawberry-scented perfume, knitting, drawing, painting, sewing, macramé, and creating a freckle remover; thank goodness it didn't work! In high school, my favorite classes—arts & crafts, shop, and art—fueled my artistic passion and honed my skills.

From childhood crafts to seasoned educator to lavender fields, my life has been a continuous journey of creation. Lavender has become a staple in my creative endeavors. From wreaths and lavender wands to bouquets, I relish the opportunity to craft with this versatile plant. Each creation is a testament to my love for lavender and my commitment to sharing its beauty and benefits with others.

Parking

Parking is in a designated area of the field. Signage will guide you to designated spaces. We have added a small parking lot adjacent to the picnic patio. Our gift shop is ADA accessible.

In the event of severe weather, you can reschedule your visit.

For the Safety and Enjoyment of Everyone

• Dress for the occasion as you will be walking on rocky roads and grassy, uneven field surfaces. Comfortable shoes and sunscreen are highly recommended. We also suggest wearing insect repellent and a sun hat.
• We have many pollinators working in the field during bloom time. If you have bee or other severe seasonal allergies, please take personal precautions.
• No smoking, vaping, or use of tobacco is allowed during your visit.
• Although we love dogs, you will have to leave them at home. Our farm is a working farm and residence, to protect our lavender plants, fields, and landscaping, we do not allow pets or other animals. Please contact us in advance if you have a service animal.
• We kindly ask that you “leave no trace” and carry out anything you bring in. Thank you!

Photography

As you explore the rows of lavender, we hope you take some memorable photos. Personal cell phone photography during your visit is always welcome. Photos can be taken when we are open during the U-Pick. If you capture a photo you adore and share on social media, we would love it if you would tag us @LavenderRhapsody!

Professional photographers, receiving payment for work, please contact us at to inquire about scheduling a photo shoot in the lavender fields. A site fee applies. We are not able to accommodate photographers during our U-Pick hours.
