Книга Дмитрия Вышемирского «Милосердия жду» упала в февральскую пропасть 2022 года.
Книга осталась без читателей, читатели — без книги: фонд Генриха Бёлля, поддержавший издание, в России был признан организацией, чья деятельность нежелательна. Издание получило несколько международных наград за исключительно сложный и необычный дизайн, но подержать в руках книгу, а тем более владеть ею, довелось немногим.
Любая бумажная книга тактильна, но эта — тактильна вдвойне: чтобы увидеть фотографию, надо не только раскрыть книгу, но и развернуть внешний сгиб страницы — это дополнительное действие замедляет разглядывание. Книгу невозможно быстро пролистать: при пролистывании она остаётся закрытой.
Торопливо пролистывая историю ** века, мы почти успели назвать палачей палачами — но они извернулись обратно верными сынами отечества под руководством эффективного менеджера. Эта книга — фотосвидетельство их преступлений, переплетённое с историей семьи автора — призвана указать теням положенное им место.
Рано или поздно они его займут.

Dmitry Vyshemirsky’s book “Waiting for Mercy” fell into the February abyss of 2022.The book was left without readers, and readers — without the book: the Heinrich Böll Foundation, which supported its publication, was declared an “undesirable organization” in Russia. The edition received several international awards for its exceptionally complex and unconventional design, yet very few ever got the chance to hold it in their hands, let alone own a copy.
Every printed book is tactile, but this one is doubly so: to see a photograph, you must not only open the book but also unfold the outer crease of the page — this additional gesture slows down the act of viewing. You cannot flip through it quickly: when rushed, the book remains shut.
In our haste to flip through the pages of the 20th century, we almost managed to name the executioners for who they were — but they twisted themselves back into loyal sons of the motherland under the guidance of an “efficient manager.” This book — a photographic testimony of their crimes, interwoven with the author’s own family history — serves to point the shadows to their rightful place.
Sooner or later, they will take it.
The presentation will be held in Russian.
