Berlin is ever changing, probably best symbolized by the coming and going of cultural spaces. Sometimes they even just literally pop up inside a former drugstore for a limited time before they vanish. One of those unlikely places is the location of the second iteration of Splitter Orchester’s site specific concert series 2025.
At a former Rossmann inside a still operating mall in Gesundbrunnen, the 18-piece composer-performer orchestra collaborates with Michael Vorfeld for the first time. Together they transform the space multiple times over a total span of 5 hours, making use of a vast array of acoustic and visual triggers.
Vorfeld is famous for his self-developed light bulb music – a very distinct and poetic take on creating audio-visual performances. The principles of this approach are superimposed onto Splitter Orchester, thus magnifying the effects.
The walls of the room itself become porous, with slide projections illuminating the glass front of the store, while droning soundscapes and precise shifts in the music guide you through the journey. The audience is invited to stay as long as they like, finding different listening positions in the room and discovering the piece from their own perspective.
