Hania Luthufi is a Sri Lankan-born vocalist, composer and improvisor currently based in Hamburg. Her work is a woven archive of devotion to Raga music and various folk song traditions of South Asia.
Hania carries a Bachelor’s degree from Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan and a Master’s degree from University of Calcutta in Hindustani classical music, specifically in the style of Khayal. Whilse continuing to be a disciple of raga music along with her mentor Sohini Singh Majumdar, she is now completing her second Master’s in critical approaches to improvisation and composition at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. Besides live performances, she crafts soundscapes for films and documentaries.
Jonathan Kay is an internationally recognized transcultural multi-instrumentalist, hailing from Toronto, Canada. In search of non-western ways of musical knowing, Jonathan formally studied North Indian Raga music in Kolkata, India, and Japanese shakuhachi music in Kyoto, Japan.
In 2008, Jonathan moved to Kolkata, and while living there for 10 years studied North Indian classical raga music through the voice and saxophone with his guru, Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharyya, the esraj (the rare version designed by Ranadhir Roy), with Sri Abir Singh Khangura. He has performed with many Indian maestros including; Subhankar Banerjee, Rashid Khan, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Bickram Ghosh, Tanmoy Bose, Tejendra Majumdar, Ronu Majumdar, Subhen Chatterjee, Subhajyoti Guha, Sougata Roy Chowdhury, Prattyush Banerjee and Ranajit Sengupta.
In Canada, Jonathan has been cultivating cross-cultural music based on his unique experiences and is a band leader of 3 innovative and award winning ensembles; Juno-nominated Monsoon (Indo-Jazz ensemble), Monsoon Trio (ensemble of Indian music on Western instruments) and Kayos Theory (experimental transcultural improvising ensemble). Jonathan has performed with these ensembles in Canada, India, USA and Japan and has been fortunate to perform alongside some of the world’s leading Jazz musicians including; David Liebman, Pat LaBarbera, Tony Malaby, Jim Black, Seamus Blake, Dan Weiss, Ingrid Jensen, Daniel Carter, David Mott, and Mike Murley.

Hania Luthufi ist eine in Sri Lanka geborene Sängerin, Komponistin und Improvisatorin, die derzeit in Hamburg lebt. Ihr Werk ist Ausdruck ihrer Hingabe an die Raga-Musik sowie an verschiedene Volksliedtraditionen Südasiens.
Hania hat einen Bachelor-Abschluss aus der Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan und einen Master-Abschluss der University of Calcutta in klassischer hindustanischer Musik, insbesondere im Stil des Khayal.
Während sie weiterhin als Schülerin der Raga-Musik bei ihrer Mentorin Sohini Singh Majumdar studiert, absolviert sie derzeit ihren zweiten Master in kritischen Ansätzen zu Improvisation und Komposition an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Neben Live-Auftritten gestaltet sie Soundscapes für Filme und Dokumentationen.
Jonathan Kay ist ein international anerkannter transkultureller Multiinstrumentalist aus Toronto, Kanada. Auf der Suche nach nicht-westlichen Formen des musikalischen Wissens studierte Jonathan in Kalkutta, Indien, nordindische Raga-Musik und in Kyoto, Japan, japanische Shakuhachi-Musik.
Im Jahr 2008 zog Jonathan nach Kalkutta und studierte dort 10 Jahre lang nordindische klassische Raga-Musik mit Gesang und Saxophon bei seinem Guru Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharyya sowie Esraj (die seltene, von Ranadhir Roy entworfene Version) bei Sri Abir Singh Khangura. In Kanada hat Jonathan auf der Grundlage seiner einzigartigen Erfahrungen interkulturelle Musik gepflegt und ist Bandleader von drei innovativen und preisgekrönten Ensembles:
dem für den Juno Award nominierten Monsoon (Indo-Jazz-Ensemble),
dem Monsoon Trio (Ensemble für indische Musik auf westlichen Instrumenten)
und Kayos Theory (experimentelles transkulturelles Improvisationsensemble).
Jonathan ist mit diesen Ensembles in Kanada, Indien, den USA und Japan aufgetreten und hatte das Glück, mit einigen der weltweit führenden Jazzmusiker zusammenzuarbeiten, darunter David Liebman, Pat LaBarbera, Tony Malaby, Jim Black, Seamus Blake, Dan Weiss, Ingrid Jensen, Daniel Carter, David Mott und Mike Murley.
