Das Phantasm Viol Consort startete Mitte März 2025 eine eigene Konzertreihe in der St. Elisabeth-Kirche in Berlin-Mitte. Die Konzerte widmen sich ganz der Polyphonie und rücken jeweils einen Komponisten in den Fokus.
Das zweite Konzert, "Orlando Gibbons, Peerless Polyphonist", feiert einen der bedeutendsten Musiker Großbritanniens, dessen 400. Todestag in diesem Jahr gedacht wird. Bereits zu Lebzeiten erfreute sich Gibbons bei Auftraggebern und Publikum großer Beliebtheit, von Musikern wurde und wird er bis heute verehrt: Ein „musikalisches Genie“, nannte ihn sein Zeitgenosse William Byrd, und Glenn Gould bezeichnete seine Musik als diejenige, die ihn „mehr bewegt hat als jedes andere Klangerlebnis.“
Im Anschluss an das Konzert lädt Phantasm die Zuschauer:innen zu einem Freigetränk an die Bar ein - was man schon immer über Gamben, Gibbons, Consort etc. wissen wollte, kann dabei gefragt werden!

In March 2025, the Phantasm Viol Consort launched its very own concert series at St. Elisabeth Church in Berlin-Mitte. Each concert is dedicated to the rich world of polyphony, shining a spotlight on one composer at a time.
The second concert, “Orlando Gibbons, Peerless Polyphonist”, pays tribute to one of Britain’s greatest musicians, commemorating the 400th anniversary of his death this year. Gibbons was adored in his own day by audiences and patrons alike, and he continues to inspire musicians across the centuries. William Byrd once called him a “musical genius,” and Glenn Gould confessed that Gibbons’s music “moved me more deeply than any other sound experience.”
