Crabtree has shared the stage with Martha Wainwright, Sun Kil Moon and Great Lake Swimmers amongst many others.
The complexity of Paper Beat Scissors' music both belies and serves its simple aim: to create a point of emotional connection and communication with the listener; To hold a space to disappear, briefly, inside the spells it casts.

JaMichael is a multi-genre flautist, composer, and bandleader originally from New York and currently based in Berlin. A versatile artist and in-demand collaborator, he brings a deep musicality shaped by years of study in composition, theory, and flute performance across New York and Boston. His work has led to collaborations with artists such as Desmond Child, SZA, and Solange.
Rooted in jazz fusion, JaMichael’s sound weaves together elements of neo-soul, hip-hop, ambient, and contemporary classical music. His early musical development was heavily influenced by the study of contemporary classical, Middle Eastern, and classical Indian traditions, which continue to inform his approach to flute technique and improvisation. Through expressive, textural playing and emotionally driven storytelling, JaMichael creates immersive live performances and recordings that connect across genres and communities.
