OUT OF FRAME, an exploratory journey into the stigma of mental disorder

Crazy. Te falta un tornillo. You’re out of your mind. Too much.Too less. Messy. Silent. Excess

So many ways to say you don’t fit — that you are out of frame. And when you don’t fit the picture, then you get framed with a diagnosis, and then pills, labels.

A pain, a perception, a difference — turned into pathology.

Mental health has recently become a topic we “openly” talk about — and yet, we still don’t know how to behave around it.

What does it do to your daily life, to your relationships, to your body, when you carry a diagnosis? How do you see yourself? And the others?

What happens when the ‘diagnosis’ follows you everywhere like a stigma — silent, sticky?

Through the methodology of the Teatro de las Oprimidas, embodiment and synesthetic processes, we will search for new ways of being and belonging exploring:

What kind of space allows us to be?

What does it mean to live with a diagnosis in a system that defines what is well and what is ill?

How can we find collective strategies to face the stigma it carries?

In 7 sessions, we will move into a shared space of expression and reflection to create a forum theatre play and end the year with presence, strength and awe.

No experience in theatre or dance is necessary, just the will of meeting on Friday to build a brave space of creation together.
