What is this workshop about:
.
• Through improvisation in action we explore the dancers’ and musicians’ bodies in shared space: How does our embodied knowledge affect improvisation practices in both dance and music?
.
• Awareness and listening: How does the enacted practice of listening and awareness help develop composing in the course of performance (improvisation) in music, dance and elsewhere?
.
• Improvisation is essentially social – we create together (sympoiesis): How can this relationality be nurtured in practice? And how is collaboration understood in the interdisciplinary context?
.
• Improvisation as performance: Is there a difference between improvisation in the workshop and public performance? How is improvisation’s significant relationship to performance understood?
.
• Taken together, these questions lead us to consider improvisation as both a being part of and creating of environment. And while these are big questions, the process doesn’t lose sight of the importance of simplicity, playfulness and inclusion – and in this way we develop our practice.
