Das Totenfest ist das größte und wichtigste Volksfest in Mexiko. Nach alt-mexikanischem Glauben kommen an Allerheiligen die Toten zu Besuch aus dem Jenseits und feiern mit den Lebenden ein besinnliches und fröhliches Wiedersehen mit Musik, Tanz und leckerem Essen. Weit über Mexiko hinaus wird dieses bunte, turbulente Fest auf der ganzen Welt gefeiert, so auch in Berlin. Feiern Sie mit! Beim mexikanischen Totenfest im Humboldt Forum erwartet Sie neben einem Markt, Kunsthandwerk, Workshops und Angeboten für Kinder ein buntes Abendprogramm, das mit einer Ofrenda, Theater, Tanz, Performance und Live-Musik die Themen Tod – Migration – Rassismus aufgreift.
Bei den Feierlichkeiten treffen koloniale und prähispanische kulturelle Traditionen aufeinander, wobei sich der prähispanische Glaube gegenüber dem katholischen in subversiver Weise behauptet hat. Die Fusion, die entstanden ist, zeigt den Widerstreit zweier Welten.
Durch die Fiesta de Día de Muertos begleitet uns im Themenjahr „Beziehungsweise Familie“ der Monarch Schmetterling. Er steht für viele Familien, für die liebevolle Verbindung zu den Verstorbenen und die Hoffnung, dass ihre Seelen jedes Jahr aufs Neue während des Totenfestes ihren Weg nach Hause finden.

[EN] Fiesta de Día de Muertos
The Mexican Festival of the Dead is a colourful folk festival where, according to ancient Mexican beliefs, the living and the dead meet again to celebrate with each other – with music, dance and delicious food.
Far beyond Mexico, this colourful, turbulent festival is celebrated all over the world, including Berlin. Join in the celebration! At the Fiesta de Día de Muertos at the Humboldt Forum, you can expect a market, arts and crafts, workshops and activities for children, as well as a colourful evening programme that addresses the themes of death, migration and racism with an ofrenda, theatre, dance, performance and live music.
The festivities bring together colonial and pre-Hispanic cultural traditions, with pre-Hispanic beliefs asserting themselves in a subversive way against Catholicism. The resulting fusion reflects the conflict between two worlds.
The monarch butterfly accompanies us through the Fiesta de Día de Muertos in this year-long programme ‘Beziehungsweise Familie’. It stands for many families, for the loving connection to the deceased and the hope that their souls will find their way home every year during the Day of the Dead.
