TICKETING
Rulan was introduced to WEAD last year and provided an embodied Art+ lecture last winter. She has this special message for WEAD members:
I respect the WEAD circle so much. It's inspiring to read artist bios on the WEAD website, and to imagine what it would be like to be in a circle with all or any of them! It means a lot to me to have a live opportunity to meet any of these amazing visionary women that are part of the Women's Eco-Artist Dialogue, to facilitate an eco-somatic experience of practice altogether, to bring together inner dreamscape and outer landscape through simple movements , to embody diversity and solidarity as well as empathetic relationship for all forms of life, at this time when so much is in crisis.
Rooted in a spirit of love and inclusivity, this multidisciplinary, multi-sensory, and multi-dimensional offering delves deep into the wisdom of the body. It's a journey that invites participants to reconnect with themselves, forge deeper connections with others, and rediscover their place within the intricate tapestry of the earth and cosmos - as the ecological body .
These classes and your participation serve as part of the Artistic Director's emergent exploration of her innovative MIXED-ICISM movement, dedicated to themes of eco-elegies, eco-feminism, and eco-liberation, in an evolving body of work that is constantly iterating to be site-responsive and fluid to the unique expression of each place/time it is nested within.
Reflections from WEAD members who experienced Rulan's embodied lecture:
"It’s really rejuvenating, and I appreciate how you discussed the body as a microcosm with various interconnected parts. I’ve always seen the female body as a contested terrain where one explores and reclaims one’s subjectivity."
"I really enjoyed thinking about the way the ecosystem can be represented in movement."
What community members around the globe have to say:
“ Keep doing your work, in whatever way you can, so that the people can feel that connection. The earth needs it. “
“ We have to keep fighting against the colonial patriarchy, to stay embodied. You let my body move and flow and be with the earth. I was struck by the power of imagery , that took me deeper and deeper and I am IN IT now .“
“Thats what I wanted to experience: the body in motion to reflect the words you were saying.”
“ I also felt like a rusty hinge before arriving here. As an academic in western science I am interested in translation of that science into other language to reveal that information, I appreciate your weaving of science with the intuitive and felt perception. “
Rulan “has planted seeds within me that I have transplanted into my local community, in particularly with migrant farm workers and people with developmental disabilities and seniors.... bringing forth meaning and connection with our ourselves and our relationships with the elements and cardinal directions, stories of the land and its original peoples, animals, plants, stars, constellations, soil, etc”
