Join venerated Oakland Tribune scribe Dave Newhouse and sports business leader Andy Dolich for a compelling fireside chat about their book Goodbye, Oakland: Winning, Wanderlust, and a Sports Town's Fight for Survival. In this timely and thought-provoking conversation, Dolich and Newhouse will explore the paradox of Oakland—a city that built championship teams and fiercely loyal fan bases, yet became the only city in America to lose an NBA, NFL, and Major League Baseball franchise.
What is it about Oakland that inspires such deep community pride—and why have its professional sports teams packed up and left? Through firsthand insights and sharp analysis, the authors will examine the forces behind these departures and what they mean for the future of sports, cities, and fans.
The conversation will also feature renowned San Francisco Chronicle sports columnist, Scott Ostler, and former Oakland City Council President, Ignacio de la Fuente.
Don’t miss this chance to reflect on the legacy of Oakland sports, the heartbreak of relocation, and the enduring question: what happens to a city when the teams—and the spotlight—move on?
Doors open at 5pm for a meet & greet and book-signing opportunity with the authors. Books may be purchased . Light refreshments will be served.
