Future Filmmakers Festival

We are thrilled to announce that seven Berkeley High School students have been selected to participate in Future Filmmakers, an immersive documentary filmmaking program led by acclaimed filmmaker Jordan Olshansky. As part of this experience, each student has been paired with a professional filmmaker mentor guiding them in crafting a short, autobiographical documentary — bringing their unique voices and stories to life.

This year’s student filmmakers are:

Over the past several months, these students have worked closely with the Future Filmmakers team and their mentors to develop deeply personal documentary films. From conceptualizing their stories to learning the technical aspects of filmmaking—including cinematography, sound design, and editing—each student has gained hands-on experience in bringing their vision to the screen. These films will also be used as the key element in curriculum modules for high school teachers to facilitate conversations around themes important to young people today.
