ImproLab with Anna Thu Schmidt and David Magyel
This ImproLab is a meeting between Bergen-based musician David Magyel and Trondheim-based dance artist Anna Thu Schmidt that explores the interplay between movement and sound improvisation. The first hour offers a guided collective exploration of the independence and interdepence of music and dance within contact improvisation. Welcome to listen, move, connect and to get inspired. In the second hour - the open jam - you are invited into a free space and playground for music and dance improvisation where everyone participates as much as they like and express themselves freely.

BIO:
Anna Thu Schmidt is a dance artist with a passion for dance improvisation, interdisciplinary collaborations, site-specific performances, and integrated dance. She holds a B.A. in Dance in Education (ArtEZ University of the Arts Arnhem/Netherlands) and M.A. in Dance Studies (NTNU). Anna leads ImproDans Trondheim and started up PRAXIS Trondheim and Ecstatic Dance in Trondheim. With her projects she wants to offer an open and safe space for movement and sound exploration. annathuschmidt.com
David Magyel is a pianist, educator, and composer, known for his sound that is both light and deeply expressive. Navigating through the full spectrum of emotions, he often explores the more contemplative shades of melancholy. His approach to improvisation is grounded in a desire for self-expression, aiming to break free from traditional boundaries, and blur the lines between musical genres. This openness in his improvisation creates a welcoming space for the dancers, encouraging them to remain present, embrace new experiences, and connect with the unknown through movement.
