This Labor Day Indivisible Waldo County will celebrate local workers with a community building party in Belfast at Steamboat Landing Park from 4-7PM. Observed on the first Monday in September, Labor Day is the annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The group plans to honor the history of the day along with the contributions of area workers with a free, open-to-the-public, family-friendly event featuring live music, food, fun, and games.
The event promises to offer a bit of something for everyone from a judged chili cook off to a corn hole tournament, kids’ area, community resource fair, and more. The chili cook off is limited to 12 spaces. Those looking to enter should email the group to sign up in advance. Chilis will be made at home and brought in crockpots to the event to be sampled by judges and the public alike. Winners will take home bragging rights for “Best Chili” in categories, including vegetarian, classic, and most innovative.
Those looking for a higher stakes competition can enter the corn hole tournament. Registration is $10 for a team of 2 players. All registration fees fill a prize pot to be split by the winning team. Teams are encouraged to sign up by email to secure their space in the tournament. Limited same day registrations will also be available beginning at 4pm.
All attendees are encouraged to check out the resource fair where local organizations will be on hand to exhibit and answer questions about programs, services, and projects available to and benefiting the community. This is an exciting opportunity to learn more about work being done in and around Waldo County from groups like the Waldo County Woodshed, But Still I Am One, unions, and many more. Additionally, the Belfast Repair Café will host a free, drop-in Bike Repair Clinic to help get your ride back in gear.
Bring your picnic blanket or lawn chair and grab a front row seat to Fully Funktional. This popular, local band will keep the party grooving throughout the evening with a funky rhythm you can’t help but dance to. Other attractions include a kids’ area for play supervised by parents, a collaborative community art project, and an all-ages frisbee zone.
