Following a spectacular European run, acclaimed duo Hugo Race & Michelangelo Russo return home to tour Australia in support of their latest album, 100 Years — out now on Gusstaff/MGM.
Blending experimental blues, ambient soundscapes, and electronica, 100 Years is a bold, immersive record born from a two-day live session at Soundpark Studios, Melbourne. Layered with echoing guitars, smoky vocals, and primal percussion, the album is a hauntingly raw and transcendent listen. As Race puts it:
“Tradition does not mean passing the ashes, but the fire.”
Hugo Race, a founding member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and The Wreckery, brings his signature haunting vocals and evocative guitar work, while Michelangelo Russo, known for his work with The True Spirit and solo projects, adds hypnotic layers of electric harp and psychedelic textures.
Their live performances are highly improvisational, emotionally resonant, and unlike anything else — each show a one-of-a-kind sonic experience that redefines the boundaries of blues.
Their previous collaboration, John Lee Hooker’s World Today (2017), was lauded for its reinvention of delta blues, praised as “a psychedelic ghost blues of a profound sort” (Musikreviews.de) and “hypnotic rhythms and haunting guitars” (Eclipsed, Germany).
