Free Class: Cottage Gardening Concepts with Matthew Johnston

Have you ever wanted an English-style cottage garden but are not sure where to start? We will review tips, techniques, and drought-tolerant plant selection for an English-style garden with a Texas touch.

Matthew developed a fondness for cottage-style gardening when assisting his grandmother in her garden in Austin. In 2019, he started overseeing volunteers at Sunshine Community Garden's flower garden, sparking his interest in design. Transitioning from an 18-year career as a hairstylist, he now tends to private gardens across town and has been employed at The Natural Gardener for the last year. His passion for nature and cherished memories of his grandmother's phlox and bearded iris serve as ongoing inspiration for crafting beautiful outdoor spaces.
