About the event
Protest at the Confederate Memorial for Juneteenth
Join SETX Impact Initiative in protest against the Confederate Memorial of the Wind, built in 2013 on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Orange, Texas. This site stands in stark contrast to the values of equality Dr. King fought for. It is a glorification of a painful history. Please join our protest, emphasizing the importance of creating public spaces that reflect inclusivity and respect for all.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
