The Herb Society of America Baton Rouge Unit invites the community to attend an educational program on Moringa, a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree native to northern India. Discover the powerful benefits of Moringa oleifera, a nutrient-dense plant gaining global attention for its versatility, sustainability, and healing properties. The program will be held in the conference center at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens on Tuesday, June 24, at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
This engaging session will explore the history, cultivation, and uses of Moringa, from its ancient roots in traditional medicine to its modern role in nutrition and agriculture. Also called “The Miracle Tree,” and “The Tree of Life,” the moringa plant is chock-full of powerhouse antioxidants, minerals, and beneficial compounds; nearly every part is edible. Participants will learn how to grow this plant in Louisiana’s climate, how to prepare it for use in recipes, and how it’s being used around the world to combat malnutrition and promote wellness.
“Moringa is an incredible plant—rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It’s easy to grow, drought-tolerant, and deeply valuable both as a food and a healing herb,” says HSABR member Sylvia Lowe, the speaker for the evening. “We’re excited to share its story and practical uses with our community.”
The program will include a presentation, live plant demonstrations, tastings of moringa-infused foods and teas, and free handouts on cultivation tips and recipes. Moringa seedlings and seeds will be available for sale while supplies last.
