Join us at Atomic Books to celebrate the release of our 2024 Mid-Atlantic Chapbook Series winner, Maryland poet Kevin Roy's debut collection "The Mortician's Son."


About the readers:

Kevin Roy is a professor of Family Science in the School of Public Health at the University of Maryland, College Park. or 20 years, he has taught, mentored, conducted community-based life history interviews, and has published more than 50 articles and book chapters. He has been writing poetry for even longer. His work has been published in Kestrel, The Shore, The Broadkill Review, Slant, Summerset Review (nominated for Best of the Net), and Rogue Agent (nominated for the Pushcart Prize), and elsewhere.

Anney Bolgiano lives in Maryland, where she teaches writing at University of Maryland, College Park and studies social work at University of Maryland, Baltimore. She received her MFA from George Mason University, and her BA from Guilford College. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Iowa Review, Gulf Coast, TriQuarterly, Nashville Review, DIAGRAM, Aquifer: The Florida Review Online, Salamander, CTRL+V, A Velvet Giant, The Figure One, District Lines Anthology, Poetry Daily, and elsewhere. Her chapbook, FLAT-PACK won the DIAGRAM/New Michigan Press 2021 Chapbook Contest. Her short story, “Junior Steaks,” was selected by Kristen Arnett for the 2024 Best of the Net anthology. She is a Pushcart Prize Nominee, and a past resident of Art Farm Nebraska.

John Kim was born and raised in the suburbs of Dayton, Ohio. He started writing fanzines in high school and has continued doing so. Among them: Coed Naked Sex!, Lemonade, and most recently, Stubs: 2001-2010. John left Dayton to go to college at Columbia, and then moved to Berkeley to go to law school. After six years of working as a litigation attorney for labor unions in Los Angeles, he went to UC Irvine and earned an MFA in fiction writing. His essays and fiction have appeared in The Normal School, The Southern Humanities Review, Fourteen Hills, and other publications. He lives in Maryland with his family.
