About the event

KASA Frog Only
Who doesn't like a solid frog bite?

Imagine only using a frog to catch a limit. Well, that's exactly what we are doing at Decker Lake (Walter E. Long) June 28 in search of hungry summer bass.

Anglers can ONLY use artificial frogs that FLOAT at the top of the surface by itself. No treble hooks allowed.

No buzz baits allowed with a frog trailer. No ribbit frogs allowed as Texas rigged to submerge the bait, or any other method of fishing except topwater is allowed.

Anglers can launch at 6am with approved navigation lights if using a motor, but everyone must use a visible 360 light.

First cast is 6:30am.

Lines out at 2pm.

Anglers can use either boat ramps to launch from and/or launch from campsite if only along the water.

We will meet at 3:00 pm by the boat ramp for awards.

The event is $60 for the entry fee with $10 for BB with best five limit.

• All KASA information can be found on the group Facebook page.

• The use of mobile communication devices such as mobile phones, marine radios, walkie-talkies, or the use of social media is strictly PROHIBITED during fishing competition. Communication between anglers without electronic devices is permitted.

This rule is in place to cancel out any “unfair advantages” and the sharing of information that may create an unfair competitive advantage during the competition. Emergency calls are permitted, and the tournament director(s) to be notified. Emergency and employment related calls are allowed.

• A mandatory captain's meeting will be streamed live on the KASA Facebook page the night before every event. Please see each event's info prior to every tournament.

• The payout structure is as follows: $60 entry fee (total) with $10 going to big bass and fees to use TourneyX per angler., along with PayPal.

15 kayaks, or less: 60/40- 1st and 2nd places.

16 kayaks, or more: 50/30/20- 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

• All registration for the events will be through the TourneyX app.

• No kayaks are to leave the area of any launch, or cast prior to the stated time in each tournament.

General Rules/Definitions

• Eligible species: Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, Guadalupe bass.

• Emergency Competition Termination: In the event of emergencies, such as weather conditions that pose an imminent threat to competitors, the Tournament Director(s) may cancel competition before the scheduled end time. An early cancelation announcement with an adjusted start/end time will be broadcasted to competitors via Facebook on the tourney event page. The announcement will specify a report-in time and location. Tournament directors will also call competitors if he/she hasn't returned to any designated area in a timely manner. It is the competitor's responsibility to have a reliable form of communication for this purpose.

• Pre-fishing: Practice in eligible waters is permitted until twelve (12) hours before the tournament event. There are no restrictions regarding areas, type of watercraft, or types of bait used in pre-fishing as long as angler follows TPWD rules and regulations.

• Competition Area:

A. Competitive fishing is allowed only on publicly accessible waters

B. Competitors may launch from any PUBLIC access shore and/or private boat ramps where a fee is required. Crossing restricted property to reach eligible water is not permitted.

C. Kayaks must not be anchored in such a position as to prevent, or block access for other kayaks or powerboats. No wading is allowed.

• Fishing Tackle and Equipment:

A. All bass must be caught live on a rod, reel, line and hook with frogs that only float.

B. Ketch boards are the only acceptable measuring device and are subject to inspection. All scores will be rounded down to the last quarter inch crossed by the tail.

C. Only ONE rod and reel may be in use at any one time. This applies to long-lining for fish as well. No trolling is allowed.

• Watercraft and Propulsion: All kayaks must be powered by paddle, pedals, or trolling motors. Anglers using a trolling motor must abide by TPWD regulations regarding navigation lights.

• Photo Standards and Scoring:

A. All KASA tournaments are Catch Photo Release (CPR) events. All bass must be twelve (12”) inches long in order to score the best five legal fish for a stringer.

B. Photo must be clear enough to read identifier, and judge the length accurately. After carefully examining photo details and cross-referencing other photos submitted for scoring by the same angler in the same event, if the tournament director is NOT able to verify with 100% confidence that the identifier is valid for both the event and competitor, then the photo will be denied.

C. The mouth of the fish must be CLOSED for a photo. Submissions with any mouth slightly open will result in a one inch (1”) deduction. No exceptions. The competitor's hand can't be under the gill plate, or covering the fish's eye. Pinching the tail is acceptable during tournaments, but as long as the hand doesn't cover the tail. The fish must look natural/fresh and not dead, or old for scoring. The fish must face left with its belly facing the angler's belly. The identifier for each tournament must be visible in each photo. The mouth of the fish must not be obstructed of any hooks, lures, or fish grips while on the Ketch board.

D. Competitors will upload their legal-sized bass on the TourneyX app. If there are connection problems (example: no signal) then anglers will submit their pics manually to the TD before check-in.

E. In the event of a tie, the tied competitor's “biggest” (top-scored) bass are compared, and the tie breaks in favor of the competitor with the biggest (top-scoring) bass. If the biggest bass are equal, the second-biggest bass are compared and will determine which competitor wins the tie. If the second-biggest bass are identical, the third bass is compared, and if they, too, are identical, then the fourth bass breaks the tie. If the fourth bass are identical then the fifth bass will break the tie. If all five of the fish are the same then the tie is broken to which angler caught their limit first according to time stamp.

F. In the event of a tie for Big Bass, the angler that caught the fish first and submitted according to when the picture was taken is ruled the winner.

G. No fish will be accepted with a picture after the stated end time of each tournament.

• Safety:

A. During competition, every competitor must have all required Coast Guard safety equipment (e.g. whistle, or other audible signal device, Coast Guard approved PFD).

B. Competitors must wear a PFD at all times while on the water during every competition.

C. All Kayaks must be equipped with emergency equipment as required by all Federal, State and Local Laws. This often includes a safety whistle and 360-degree light. Additionally, a Hi-Visibility flag flown on the kayak is recommended. This also includes navigational lights for kayaks using motors.

D. The tournament director has the right to postpone, or cancel the start of an official tournament because of bad weather, or other factors that would endanger the safety of the competitors.

D. Anglers must maintain a distance of 50 yards while on the water. No casting/trolling is allowed within that distance. When passing an angler on a river, creek, or narrow portion of a waterway, you may maintain a reasonable distance less than 50 yards. Right of way is to be given to the angler fishing that area first. Only permission by an angler is acceptable for this rule to be broken.

E. The tournament directors shall have availability of cell phones from each competitor to assure reasonable communication in the event of an emergency. It is the responsibility of each competitor to have a reliable form of communication during every tournament and managing the day of distance from his/her original launch.

• Competitor Conduct: Competitors participating in any KASA sanctioned event must observe the rules for the specific event in which they are participating and must conduct themselves at all times in a manner that reflects the sport of kayak bass fishing, KASA, and its sponsors. Competitors are expected to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, integrity, safety and conservation in support of the sport.

Tournament Director's Notes:

• We reserve the right to polygraph anyone entering in the KASA tournaments to determine foul play. We also reserve the right to disqualify anyone from the results of the tests including inconclusive test results.

• Please be on time, bring what you need and make sure you have registered before the tournament.

• We are fortunate and thankful to have as many sponsors as we do. Please make sure to show them your support. Complaints about free/donated prizes won in a tourney, or raffle will not be tolerated.

• Cheating and any other unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. If an angler is caught cheating he/she will be banned from competing at future KASA events.

• Sharelunker Exception: a competitor may use a stringer, or attachment system to temporarily hold a fish that qualifies for the TPWD Sharelunker Program. It is the angler's responsibility to decide whether they can continue to compete while meeting the TPWD guidelines, or if it wiser to concede and exit the tournament that day. All decisions should be based on the safety, health and capability to care for the fish in the best way possible. Call (903)681-0550 to report catch for Sharelunker Program.

• All rules decided and interpreted by the tournament director(s).

• Any protests should be registered with the tournament director(s) immediately after the results being announced.

• The tournament director(s) retain the right to make any changes and ANY time and the FINAL decision up to the tournament director(s) based on a reasonable judgment.

• Not having read the rules is not an exception.

• In the event of a rule violation, the tournament director may impose such penalties as deemed appropriate by them, including without limitation, disqualification, forfeiture of entry fee and prizes and prohibition from participation in subsequent KASA tournaments.
