Come along for an afternoon of breathtaking music as our AYO Soloist Competition Finalists step into the spotlight with their full concertos with an accompanist. The winner, chosen by a distinguished panel, will play their concerto with AYO in 2026!

The AYO Soloist Competition is one of our favourite traditions—an exciting chance for our own orchestra members to shine as soloists, with over $5,600 in prizes up for grabs. The winner receives $2,000, plus there are awards for outstanding performances, a gem piece, best under-18 performer, and more.
AYO has a proud history of launching young stars—you might know a few names like Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, John Chen, Amitai Pati, and Thomas Hutchinson, all of whom performed with AYO early in their careers.
