Serbin curated the acclaimed Soviet photography show "Comrades and Cameras" in 1991 and founded Verso Limited Editions in 2008, publishing renowned photography titles. Serbin's dedication earned him the Book Publisher of the Year award in 2009 and recognition as a member of the Walter Williams Society and a Detroit Institute of the Arts Fellow.
The images will be donated to Green Peace in Greece to help fundraise their mission.
Glen Serbin bio - statement: "I have been involved with photography my entire life. My passion is to pursue images that embody and reveal the form, shadows and intricate designs that nature creates. During the past two years, I have been documenting the compositions and patterns that are woven into "Ice and Sand" landscapes throughout the world.
Although they are very different elements, they share the ability to showcase how the forces of wind and weather work in unison, to carve their art into these distinct domains. This exhibit features nature’s hand in earth’s extreme habitats: Antarctica and the desert.
By shooting in black and white, I hope to lead the viewer to experience the extraordinary intricacies and shapes of these environments without the distraction of color.
I am inspired by the work of German photographer Karl Blossfeldt and influenced by the American landscape photographer Ansel Adams. For me, it’s essential to relay how an artist sees and uses light-it’s what interests me the most about any photo. I am always inspired by the quality of light that defines the shape, feel and detail of each subject.
For many decades, I have worked as an editor and publisher in commercial and fine art photography. I am now dedicated, full-time, to fine art photography, and as such, devoted to monochrome images of landscape and still life.
In 2023, some of these images were in a portfolio that received first place in the 52nd Annual National Wildlife Federation’s photography competition. It was a wonderful confirmation that my images resonate in the way I’d hoped they would. "
