Dear hikers,
On Sunday September 7, prepare yourself for a unique lunar eclipse and blood moon where Lebanon, along with many countries across the globe, will witness one of the longest total lunar eclipse of the century around 82 mins. The total lunar eclipse will start at 8:38 pm and ends at 9:52 pm. We will observe this rare celestial event and the sunset on the top of the Kneyse mountain (the name of the mountain refers to a small church existed over there during the Roman period) located on the western slopes of Lebanon reaching a maximum altitude of 2050 m with a panoramic view of the beqaa valley & Mt Hermon.
In Mount Kneyse, we will observe the oldest Tv Station in the Middle East (Canal 11) used to cover most of the Lebanese territories. The TV station allowed for the prosperity of art, music, acting and all the assembly of audiovisual productions; it inspired one of the most important periods of the cultural identity of Lebanon. Channel-11 was operated by the Lebanese Army and was built on the highest peak of Mount Kneisseh to be far reaching. Unfortunately, that tv station was bombed by the Israel army during the civil war.
We will start our climb from Tarshish at an altitude of 1700 m hiking on a barren land passing by 3 uphills which are considered moderate to advanced until we reach to the canal 11 (top of the Kneyse mountain). We will have a 360 degrees panoramic view of the region. A perfect spot to see the sunset and the total lunar eclipse. A celestial event that will take your breath away and it will be unforgettable. After observing that rare event, we will take a new road done by the locals before going down to Tarshish, enjoying the view of the western slopes and the beqaa valley.

Hiking distance: 14 kms ( level 6- moderate to challenging )
Total hiking duration : 7 hrs
Moving time : 6 hrs
Required materials : hiking boots, fleece, windproof jacket in case windy weather, backpack, hat, 3L of water, raincoat, sunglasses, sunscreen, healthy snacks (dates, dried fruit, fruit, almonds, oat, protein bar), woolen hat and gloves, torches.
Fees: 20 USD (which includes transportation, guidance, giveaways but does not include medical insurance )
