The Karius test is a blood test based on Next Generation Sequencing of microbial cell-free DNA to rapidly and non-invasively detect >1000 DNA based pathogens to diagnose bloodstream and deep seated infections. The Karius Test is used for a variety of diagnostic applications (infective endocarditis, febrile neutropenia, invasive fungal infections, fever of unknown origin, and immunocompromised pneumonia) in both pediatric and adult patients.Often times, reports in the literature reveal that the Karius Test can provide an accurate pathogen identification earlier than many standard microbiologic tests (~48h), even for slow growing/fastidious organisms, leads to appropriate changes in antimicrobial therapy to support antimicrobialstewardship, and can even lead to potential avoidance of invasive procedures.
