The Gathering Of Men Film Club: The Northman Screening & Discussion

1. Director insight: After the screening, I will introduce the director (Robert Eggers) and share a few aspects of his life and artistic influences that could have shaped The Northman.

2. Quick sharing round: Each of you will have about 2 minutes to share your ratings (1–5), in these areas:
I. Cinematography & Soundtrack (visuals, music, and atmosphere)
II. Content (theme, storyline, and characters)
III. Acting (performances and how they convey emotional depth)

3. Group discussion: We’ll dive into the film’s exploration of masculinity, such as male archetypes portrayed (King, Warrior, Magician, Lover), boy to man initiation rituals & how wives determine the role of a husband.

4. Personal takeaways: We will close the night with everyone sharing what they take away for their own lives from the movie or the discussion!

I hope this evening will be a good chance for all of us to not just engage with the film as entertainment, but as a mirror for our shared (hu)man experience!
