Durham University Brass Band and Concert Band in concert at The English Reformed Church

Durham University Brass Band and Durham University Concert Band join forces for a collaborative summer tour! Durham University Concert Band founded in 1977 is an inclusive ensemble open to all woodwind brass and percussion players. The band prides itself on fostering a friendly environment while still striving for musical excellence. Their repertoire spans a wide variety of genres from wind band classics and orchestral arrangements to film scores and jazz including Philip Sparke’s Hymn of the Highlands James Bond medleys Dave Brubeck’s A Portrait in Time and Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite. The band regularly performs in and around Durham including concerts in local churches and the iconic Durham Cathedral. They have also enjoyed success in national competitions earning a prestigious Platinum Award at the National Concert Band Festival in Warwick—a feat they hope to repeat this year alongside many other exciting performances. Durham University Brass Band established in 2002 is dedicated to keeping the tradition of British brass banding alive within the university community. Open to all brass and percussion players the band provides a welcoming and sociable environment for musicians of all backgrounds. Their performances range from formal concerts to high-profile events including the Durham Remembrance Parade the Durham Regatta and the renowned Whit Friday Marches where they were ranked the best university band at the Friezland contest in 2023. The band has also achieved impressive competition success winning the UniBrass contest in 2021. Beyond competitions Durham University Brass Band values collaboration and has previously performed alongside local brass bands and other university societies
