A WEEKEND THERAPEUTICAL CONTACT IMPROV WORKSHOP WITH ARIANE PUHR 22-23 NOVEMBER
In CI workshops, festivals, or jams, something remarkable often happens: personal themes – sometimes tender, sometimes deeply challenging – rise to the surface through the dance. Yet rarely is there space to truly pause, to meet them with presence and care.
This workshop offers that space. Together, we will take time to slow down, to gently explore, and to reflect on the experiences that emerge in contact improvisation. What arises is often familiar – echoes of old patterns, emotions long carried – now returning to be seen, softened, and transformed.
This gathering is for those with prior CI experience who recognize these moments in themselves and who feel the call to use Contact Improvisation not only as dance, but as a path of growth: to soften what has been rigid, to invite flexibility, and to open into new ways of being.
This is not a technical workshop. Alongside the dance, we will bring in dialogue and draw on the wisdom of schema therapy – weaving conversation and movement to deepen awareness and expand choice. Together, we will experiment with fresh possibilities, soften habitual responses, and nurture resilience and vitality.
Here, Contact Improvisation and dialogue flow as partners – each holding equal space, each supporting the other – creating a field for transformation, connection, and personal growth.
** This is a therapeutic workshop, however if you are currently experiencing severe traumatic episodes, PTSD, or psychosis, this workshop may not be suitable for you. We encourage you to prioritize your well-being and seek appropriate support.

ARIANE PUHR
Is a psychologist, music therapist and passionated contact improvisation dancer since long years. Improvisation as a musical, dance and life phenomenon is fascinating her since many years in its infinitely creative scope.
Already during her studies of music therapy in the 90s she was interested in dance and the accompanying elective subject was dance and movement therapy. In the many years of accompanying a wide variety of people in music therapy, it has become increasingly important to her to pay attention to and incorporate the physical connection when making music or listen to it. After practicing other dance forms for many years, she discovered Contact Improvisation in 2010 and has been enchanted by this wonderful dance form ever since.
She has attended numerous trainings and workshops and have been teaching Contact Improvisation since 2014, organizing jams and workshops. Contact Improvisation has become an essential part of her life. Dancing, teaching and being a therapist gives her important impulses in her personal development. She loves to share this wealth of experience with others. She also use dance and embodiment practices in a clinical and therapeutic context.
Again and again she experiences how Contact Improvisation can have beneficial effects in the moment as well as lasting effects on people. Under the title “The Effect of Touch in Contact Improvisation on Affect, Stress, Sense of Connectedness and Sense of Self. A Study on the Contact Improvisation Dance Practice” in 2021/2022 she conducted scientific research on the effects of contact improvisation during her psychology studies. Contact improvisation offers to her the opportunity to come into an understanding contact with herself and others.
