Join us as we celebrate Dolan Nature Sanctuary in Kent Count, MI! A brief ceremony followed by a co-lead educational hike by Michigan Nature Association and OGFN staff. Attendees will hike through the 127 acres to explore floodplain forests and wetlands along the Coldwater River, and learn about oak savanna restoration efforts. The hike will end at approximately noon.
The hike at Dolan Nature Sanctuary will showcase the floodplain forest, series of oxbow ponds and wetland pools, amongst the mature trees and beautiful display of Virginia bluebells. The forested corridor along the Coldwater River provides excellent habitat for neo-tropical migrants, forest birds, amphibians, and reptiles. The oak barrens restoration consists of close to 30 acres and provides habitat for grassland bird species. Participants should plan on an easy ~2-mile hike (though there may be some hopping over wet areas along the trail). There is limited parking, some participants may have to park along the adjacent road.
