Come and experience a night of vocal jazz elegance as we welcome back the captivating vocals of Meg Lee alongside the sensational saxophone stylings of Mike Smith for an evening of unforgettable jazz.
Cheshire-born Meg Lee is no stranger to the spotlight. Following studies at The London School of Musical Theatre, she graced the stages of London's West End and toured with Mark Hedges' acclaimed 'Night On Broadway'. However, her true passion lay in forging her own path as a solo artist, and the North West has embraced her as one of its most sought-after contemporary jazz singers. Her talent has garnered national attention with plays on Clare Teal's BBC Radio 2 jazz show, and she has shared the stage with luminaries such as Rumer and even graced the prestigious Ronnie Scott's alongside Sarah Jane Morris. Inspired by jazz and blues icons like Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee, and contemporary voices such as Melody Gardot and Madeline Peyroux, Meg’s performances are a masterclass in soulful delivery and captivating storytelling. Expect a repertoire that blends classic charm with modern sophistication, delivered with her signature warmth and engaging stage presence.
Joining Meg is the formidable talent of Mike Smith on saxophone. With over two decades in the music industry, Mike has cultivated a stellar reputation as a jazz musician, arranger, composer, and in-demand session musician. His impressive credentials include working with a diverse range of artists, from Elkie Brooks and Echo & the Bunnymen to Tony Hadley and Heather Small. Currently, Mike lends his exceptional talents to the international brand Cream, performing as their sax and keys player alongside K-Klass and even the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Known for his soulful playing, extensive repertoire, and gorgeous sound, Mike’s improvisational prowess and melodic inventiveness are guaranteed to thrill.
Guiding the rhythm section with his hard-swinging and inventive piano work will be Andrzej Baranek. Andrzej's versatile approach draws from the harmonic worlds of Bill Evans to McCoy Tyner, and his sensitive accompaniment perfectly blends with anyone he collaborates with. Completing this stellar lineup are our house regulars, Peter Robinson on double bass and Roger Keay on drums, ensuring a dynamic foundation for the evening’s musical journey.
Don't miss this opportunity to experience a truly exceptional night of live jazz. Come and be swept away by the vocal artistry of Meg Lee and the saxophone brilliance of Mike Smith! We look forward to welcoming you.
