In what is now becoming a cherished tradition, we are thrilled to welcome back a night of high-energy Parisian 'Hot Club' style jazz featuring the dynamic trio of Julian Gregory, Matthew Compton, and Paul Hartley.
Leading the show is the esteemed violinist Julian Gregory. With over 35 years as a member of the world-renowned BBC Philharmonic, Julian is widely recognized as one of the most technically brilliant violinists of his generation. While his primary style is the high-octane Parisian 'Hot Club' jazz made famous by Stéphane Grappelli, Julian's virtuosic playing is also influenced by a diverse mix of musical genres, including Latin, Bluegrass, Funk, and Celtic traditional music, showcasing his incredible versatility and musical passion.
Joining Julian to provide an authentic 'Hot Club' sound is the accomplished accordionist Matthew Compton. A fellow member of the BBC Philharmonic, Matthew is a highly respected musician known for his work in both classical and contemporary settings. His deep understanding of music allows him to perfectly complement the spirited improvisations and swinging melodies, adding a rich, expressive layer to the ensemble.
Completing the trio is the exceptional guitarist Paul Hartley. A prominent figure on the UK jazz scene, Paul is a highly skilled guitarist who regularly leads his own quartet. His style is a powerful and swinging one, praised for its lyrical solos and dynamic accompaniment, which provides the perfect rhythmic and harmonic foundation for the evening's music.
The quintet will be completed by our regular and reliable rhythm section: Peter Robinson on bass and Roger Keay on drums.
